Simon Burnay

A naval architect and marine casualty specialist, Simon has spent his career tackling some of the most complex challenges at sea, from pollution incidents and damaged vessels to salvage operations and wreck removals. He is CEO of Waves Group, leads its global casualty response team and is a member of the Lloyd’s Special Casualty Representative Panel.

Simon regularly works with governments, NGOs, insurers, lawyers and salvors, bringing people together to make difficult situations clearer, more manageable and—wherever possible—preventable. He has also served as a technical adviser at the International Maritime Organization, supporting national administrations and NGOs.

In leading Project Tangaroa, Simon is applying his experience and expertise in wreck surveys and assessments and oil removal operations to protect our oceans and coastal communities from the threat posed by historic and potentially polluting wrecks.

The ocean has shaped Simon’s career – and protecting it has become his driving purpose.
